LSI Keywords are the most fruitful part of any on-page SEO campaigns.
After all, most of your competitors are not using it to it’s fullest.
Most of the times, I see that SEOs are applying the on-page SEO techniques like title tags or alt attributes, while completely missing out using LSI phrases.
As of today, LSI keywords bring the most benefits.
In this article, I show you how to find LSI keywords to skyrocket your website traffic, using simple and actionable steps.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) keywords are basically the words/phrases that are related to the keywords that you type in.
Think about this.
“Cafe” and “Coffee Shop” are somehow related, right?
In case, someone writes an article about the cafe, naturally, he would use terms like coffee or beans.
This is how Google thinks as well.
These days, more than just keywords, Google wants to understand the topic of the content better. So, they want to separate apple (a fruit) and apple (the company).
Here are few other LSI keywords for the word – “Cafe”:
|“Cafe”||“Coffee shop”, “Cappuccino”, “Coffee Beans”, “Drink”, “Cafe Latte” …|
All these words are somehow related to the word – “Cafe”. And, when we use those sort of words for an article about the cafe, it sends a strong signal for
Which in turn, helps your site rank for your chosen phrase.
The more semantically related keywords in an article, the better.
Of course, that does not mean we need to stuff our articles with LSIs all over it.
However, now that we know LSIs matter for SEO, we can use it to our advantage (for better ranking).
Here are some of my favorite ways to find LSI keywords and use it to boost your website’s ranking:
Just search for the term you would like to rank for.
Let’s say you want your page to rank #1 for the term – “Digital Marketing Company”
Let’s search it up on google.
Here’s one of the results that showed up (remember to search using incognito/private mode):
Notice that term – “digital marketing agency” is bold.
Which means that google treats the phrases “digital marketing agency” and “digital marketing company” as almost the same term.
Next, let’s search for a phrase – “Tour Packages”
Here’s a screenshot of the few results:
The bottom line?
“tour packages”, “vacation packages” are “holiday packages” are very closely related term for google, hence they are LSI keywords for each other. And, since we got this result from google itself – there’s no denial of this fact.
So, if I were to rank for tour packages (for a travel company’s client), I would try to incorporate those LSI terms within my page.
Some of the most useful LSI phrases come from google itself.
Not just search result, but you may use “Searches related to” section to find semantically related words or phrases.
Since google sees them as closely related words, using them within the page help boost site’s ranking like anything else.
Related searches do not just help find LSI keywords, they also help in broader keyword research for a business.
Using these words impact a lot in on-page SEO.

Click on few related search terms and view their related searches as well.
In the end, collect every search terms that you find relevant to your initial keywords (that you want to rank for)

It is my go-to software to find a great list of semantically related keywords fast.
In fact, there is not much work needed to use this simple tool. (Not even necessary to learn anything as well)
Just go to https://lsigraph.com/ and search using your target keywords.
And, you’ll find a list of phrases related to that keyword.
Super easy, right?

The idea of finding LSI keywords is to find related words that search engines find closely related to each other.
Sometimes, you need to refine the list.
In the above example, it’s not a better approach to use both the phrases “best gym” and “cheap gym” in a single post.
Just to rank better, we should not forget about the target market and how the company has positioned itself in the market.
Nevertheless, LSI Graph results in a great list of keywords that we can use out-of-the-box.

Just enter your target keyword and get a list of LSIs.
Make sure you select LSI (instead of long-tail) to get LSI. Otherwise, it will show a list of long-tail keywords as well.
Add some of the phrases you find relevant to your list.
It’s not necessary to collect huge chunks of LSI keywords for a single post. It’s more important to form a habit of listing a few LSI keywords before you hit that “Publish” button.
And, it’s not even necessary to put all LSIs in a single post.

Now that we have a bunch of LSI words to use, how do I actually use it?
There’s no hard and fast rule.
The more organic, the better.
Every time you conduct an on-page SEO audit, think about what a user wants. Because ultimately search engines are made for people.
Google uses LSI keywords to understand the topic better. And, as artificial intelligence (like Rankbrain) gets better and better, it’s more difficult to cheat google.
So, it’s always a better idea to help readers in every way possible.
Nevertheless, there are few ideas which help you leverage LSI keywords to it’s fullest potential. Placing these words in certain areas will yield the most fruitful results.
Here are few of those places:
Headings are the natural places to keep the LSIs.
It’s better to use some of those words in an H2 tag.
Google prioritizes heading tags in the ascending order. Which, means H1 is the most important and, H2 is the second most important one.
Since we keep our target keyword inside H1 tag, there isn’t enough room to include LSI keywords as well.
H2 tag is the perfect place to include our LSIs.
Whenever someone searches for something, they want to find what they want (as fast as possible).
And, if they don’t …
… they’ll press that back button.
Google knows this and hence gives priority to those words that are in the beginning part of the article.
What’s in the beginning 100 words of your article?
Here’s what should be – “target keyword”, and few LSI keywords.
That way you send a strong affirmation to the search engines that your content is overall topically related to your main target keyword.
Although not being the actual content, Google prioritizes what’s in the meta description for SEO purpose.
Meta Description is like a summary (snippet) of your post.
Try to use 1 LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keyword inside your meta description. Here’s where you should not overdo it.
In case, search engines find it to be too much, you’ll be penalized …
So, be careful …
Rather than listing words, I recommend you to write a sentence or 2 for your meta description.
This way, you make it organic as well. Since we need to keep our target here, we do not have much room to use many LSIs.
Having 1 word (which is strongly relevant to your target word) is enough to use here.
